For the past six years, the North Carolina Coastal Federation has lead the fight against marine debris during the Lost Fishing Gear Recovery Project, or Crab Pot Project. This project employs coastal watermen during their off-season to remove derelict crab pots from North Carolina waters.
In September, Hurricane Florence devastated the North Carolina coast. We are still recovering and rebuilding. In additional to physical damage to the coast, many communities are hurting emotionally. People lost their homes, jobs, family members and even their lives. In the wake of this tragedy, there is much still to be done before life becomes normal again.
